The Nevada Legislative Session is now almost halfway over - there are only 64 days left until Sine Die! This week, President Pilcher is requesting your support on three bills which are important to workers’ rights here in Nevada, one of which is being heard this afternoon. We expect a flood of bills to be introduced in the coming weeks, but this week we are focusing on these three. Please review and support these three important pieces of legislation at https://bit.ly/TellTheNVLeg by clicking the drop-down and selecting the appropriate bill number.

SB373 - Since SB135 was enacted in 2019, NSHE faculty and staff are the only large group of state employees without collective bargaining rights in statutes. Because NSHE faculty lack collective bargaining rights in statute, existing bargaining units operate under NSHE Code, giving the Board of Regents the sole power to write and determine the implementation of collective bargaining rules. SB373 upholds the legacy of a longstanding American tradition to empower faculty, so they can retain the dignity and respect necessary to provide a high-quality education to the students who will decide Nevada’s future.

SB294  - This important bill, sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro, restores fact-finding and binding arbitration for local government employers and making related conforming changes. We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in local government and ask that you please support this bill as soon as possible!

NEXT HEARING: TODAY, MARCH 29, 2021 @ 3:30 PM

AB257 - This bill, introduced by labor champion Assm. Susie Martinez, will dramatically improve the air quality requirements in Nevada’s public schools, ensuring that they are a safe environment for teachers and students. This bill fits within the American Rescue Plan’s funding requirements, so it requires no state money. The improvements it makes will be fully funded by the federal government.

NEXT HEARING: TOMORROW, MARCH 30, 2021 @ 1:00 PM
