From the President's Office

Please come out to show your support at the Washoe County School Naming Committee on February 5th, 2020. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the WCSD Administration Building, 425 East 9th Street, Reno.

Official Statement on WCSD School Naming Honoring the Legacy of Nevada Senator Debbie Smith

At our October meeting, a motion was proposed, discussed and approved by the body to send our support in naming the new High School after the late Senator Debbie Smith.  The motion had overwhelming support.

To say that Debbie was a champion of K-12 education would be an understatement. It would take pages to list her personal sacrifices, efforts and legislative accomplishments to that end.

Senator Debbie Smith knew that the most important responsibility that a community has is to train the future.

On behalf of the thousands of workers in Northern Nevada affiliated with the NNCLC, their families and children,  I urge you to honor the legacy of Senator Debbie Smith by naming the new High School after her.

If it wasn't for Debbie Smith's dedication, leadership and passion to support public education in Washoe County and throughout Nevada - in all likelihood there would be no need for the WCSD Board of Trustees to vote on who to name a
new school after.

Respectfully,
