NORTHERN NEVADA MEMBER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM RENAMES ANNUAL CELEBRATION IN RESPONSE TO CHAVEZ ALLEGATIONS
Event to Continue as the Solidarity Celebration Dinner
RENO, NV — The Northern Nevada Member Assistance Program, the 501(c)(3) arm of the Northern Nevada Central Labor Council (CLC), announced today that its annual Cesar Chavez Celebration has been renamed the Solidarity Celebration Dinner. The event will go on as planned.
The decision to rename the event follows allegations that emerged this morning regarding Cesar Chavez, prompting organizations nationwide, including the United Farm Workers, to step back from activities bearing his name.
"Out of respect for the United Farm Workers and in solidarity with anyone who may have been harmed, we felt it was important to rename this event," said Rob Benner, Secretary-Treasurer of the Northern Nevada Central Labor Council. "The labor movement has always stood for the dignity and protection of working people - all working people. We cannot in good conscience celebrate under a name now associated with allegations of harm. Our commitment to the community and to the values of the labor movement remains unwavering, and the Solidarity Celebration Dinner reflects exactly that."
The event will continue to honor the rich history of Latino labor and working families in Northern Nevada. Details on date, time, and location remain unchanged.

EL PROGRAMA DE ASISTENCIA A MIEMBROS DEL NORTE DE NEVADA CAMBIA EL NOMBRE DE SU CELEBRACIÓN ANUAL EN RESPUESTA A LAS ACUSACIONES CONTRA CHÁVEZ
El evento continuará bajo el nombre de Cena de Celebración de la Solidaridad
RENO, NV — El Programa de Asistencia a Miembros del Norte de Nevada (Northern Nevada Member Assistance Program), la rama 501(c)(3) del Consejo Laboral Central del Norte de Nevada (CLC), anunció hoy que su celebración anual en honor a César Chávez ha sido rebautizada como Cena de Celebración de la Solidaridad. El evento se llevará a cabo tal como estaba previsto.
La decisión de cambiar el nombre del evento surge a raíz de las acusaciones que salieron a la luz esta mañana con respecto a César Chávez, las cuales han llevado a organizaciones de todo el país —incluyendo el sindicato United Farm Workers— a distanciarse de las actividades que llevan su nombre.
"Por respeto al United Farm Workers y en solidaridad con cualquier persona que pueda haber resultado perjudicada, consideramos importante cambiar el nombre de este evento", declaró Rob Benner, Secretario-Tesorero del Consejo Laboral Central del Norte de Nevada. "El movimiento laboral siempre ha defendido la dignidad y la protección de la clase trabajadora; de toda la clase trabajadora. No podemos, en buena conciencia, celebrar bajo un nombre que ahora se asocia con acusaciones de perjuicio. Nuestro compromiso con la comunidad y con los valores del movimiento laboral permanece inquebrantable, y la Cena de Celebración de la Solidaridad refleja precisamente eso".
El evento continuará rindiendo homenaje a la rica historia de la mano de obra latina y de las familias trabajadoras en el norte de Nevada. Los detalles sobre la fecha, la hora y el lugar permanecen inalterados.
